Kovalam (Kerala)

Our last stop before heading home was Kovalam (back in Kerala), another popular beach resort.

We left Kanyakumari after lunch. Another day of long bus journey, another hot day, close to ‘burning’ at times. After seven days, we were used to the long walk to the bus station, waiting for the bus, jostling (not that bad really) to get on to the bus. But not the heat, especially inside the ‘sardine-packed’ bus!

We stayed two nights in Kovalam and the last day was a relaxing one – no more rushing for the bus, no more changing bus, no more… – just relax and enjoy the fresh air and the sea breeze.

While others were either getting ready or still in their slumber land, I took an early morning walk along the beach, absorbing in the sights and sounds of the waves. I enjoyed that solitary moment, watching people passing by, people getting ready to dive into the sea, men getting ready the deck chairs, tourists slowly flocking to the beach…

…and then I had a flashback of the time when I was a young and carefree child. The time when I used to go to the beaches in Penang with my parents and siblings. I saw myself running about the beaches, building sand castles, looking for seashells, screaming and giggling, getting into the sea but never got round to learn to swim (until much later). Yes, those were the days which I can only look back with fond memory. I will remember this beach in particular for a long, long time to come!
