Going Back in Time

Many of the places we went to, especially some of the small towns and villages, reminded me of the 1960s in Malaysia. A lot of things used are still the old fashion ways. The ladies, especially the adults, still wear the traditional clothes. Life is so simple, laid-back and unassuming. Some of the bus conductors use whistle to signal to the drivers to stop, while others use ‘string and bell’ method where pulling the string would trigger the bell to ring! Newspapers are still being used for wrapping food. I was particularly 'fascinated' by the 'kachang putih' (nuts) men serving nuts and beans using newspaper folded into cone-shape. I found it to be so 'history'!

It gives me this nostalgic feeling of ‘going back in time’ and I could not help it but to take some photos in ‘black and white’, to reflect how things were like during the ‘pre-colour-photos’ era.

Mobile phones and internet cafes are about the only thing which ‘gave-away’ that we are not in the 60s but 21st century. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone and internet café is easily available. The service of the ‘wireless plugged-in’ is even more amazing! My friend was surfing the net on the bus without interruption or ‘breaking of reception’!
